This year saw the return of the annual Battle of the Bands event for the first time since the pandemic.
The student led committee set about organising the extremely successful event earlier in the month, ensuring the Cinema Gym stage was suitably amplified and lit for the occasion. The whole school cheered on and supported a variety of bands participating from 3rd, 5th and 6th Year.
In the end, the 5th Year band, formed by Pierce O’Neill, Ben Gabor and Sean McCormack, claimed the winning trophy with their swinging rock ‘n’ roll numbers Johnny B. Goode and Blue Suede Shoes.
The guest judge for the evening was Declan Kinahan (Old Boy 2017) who commended the return of the Battle of the Bands evening, the crowd participation, and the musical talent demonstrated on the evening. Declan, who performs as Oscar Blue, is a talented singer-songwriter whose stirring performances were a memorable feature of school assemblies during his time here.
A tremendous well done to the students who formed the Battle of the Bands’ organising committee and made such a success of the evening.
