The curriculum provided is balanced, broad and diverse. Scholarship and academic depth are its central features.
A high priority is placed on communication with parents. There is a programme of regular reporting and staff are available to meet with parents on request. There is also a parent-teacher meeting for every year group each year.
The Junior Cycle and Leaving Certificate curricula of the Irish Department of Education and Skills are followed. All students follow the Junior Cycle and sit Junior Certificate at the end of 3rd Year. Transition Year is compulsory in 4th Year. All students sit the Leaving Certificate at the end of 6th Year.
Each year group is normally divided into two or three for academic purposes, giving us classes of approximately 16 per base class. The academic progress of each class group is monitored by a Tutor. Many classes in the Senior Cycle are considerably smaller than the average size.
Our examination results are excellent across a wide ability range. The overwhelming majority of our students go on to study at university.
All subjects are taught at Higher level, with the exception of Irish and Mathematics, where there may be streaming into Higher and Ordinary level classes. The following subjects may be offered in Glenstal.
Students will generally take 10 examinable subjects for Junior Cycle. For the Leaving Certificate students generally take 7-8 examinable subjects
