Co-Curricular Activities

The word ‘Glenstal’ means ‘The Glen of the Stallion’, and is an English rendering of the Irish Gleann Stail. The glen itself is a very impressive geological feature, consisting of a mile-long valley, formed during the last ice-age, rich in many kinds of wild flowers.

Co -Curricular activities are an integral and enjoyable element of student life in Glenstal Abbey School.  They contribute to a student’s holistic education instilling the Benedictine values providing an essential element of the Glenstal Abbey School experience. They foster an environment of inclusion, excellence, participation by all and build skills for life thus fully realising each student’s talents. Glenstal Abbey is situated on a 500 acre estate with streams, lakes and woodland paths, surrounding a castle built in the romantic Norman style. The stunningly beautiful woodland and parkland offer unique opportunities for outdoor activities and explorationThis distinctive location allows students to explore such pursuits as orienteering, fishing on private lakes, and pitch & putt at a neighbouring course.

Sport is an important part of your son’s development and it is compulsory that he is involved in some form of physical activity. We are conscious that every child is different and hope that your son or son’s find a co-curricular activity that they will like. We believe it is important to challenge each boy to fulfil his potential and also to remain healthy and resilient for the challenges of life ahead.
