New Saint Vincent de Paul shop opens in Tipperary town

The new Saint Vincent de Paul clothes shop was officially opened and blessed by Fr EugeneEverard and Fr Luke Macnamara OSB on Tuesday 8 th August. Peter Purcell (5 th year)represented the students of Glenstal Abbey School. The Abbey and School gave a donation of€1000 to support the local conference of the Saint Vincent de Paul and organised a collectionof clothes. Students, parents, employees and monks, together collected 27 large sacks ofclothes. The clothes were delivered in May and a second collection will be delivered inSeptember so there is still time to donate clothes. (If delivering clothes, please leavelaundered and in a sealed bag by the laundry in the school).

The clothes shop will assist families in need, and the funds will go to the local conference ofthe Saint Vincent de Paul Society. In addition, the clothes are being reused and thus promotea sustainable circular economy and avoid the waste associated with fast fashion. Finally, as can be gauged from the photos, it is hoped that the shop will function as a social hub and helppeople from different backgrounds to come to know one another and have a place of welcomein the town.

A warm thank you to all students, parents, monks and staff who contributed tothis initiative.

Luke Macnamara
